The IRS has been open for a couple of weeks already. The Practitioner Hotline has a 2 to 4 min wait each time I have called. The seems to be an inconsistency in the phone lines , however, representatives are available and ready to assist practitioners.

I have found that clients have been pushed into collections during the shutdown automatically by the IRS computer system. We are aware of this problem and urging clients to be in contact if they have promise to pay or pending abatements.

EIN Section is backed up. If an assignment can not be made automatically on the online application system, the guarenteed four day wait period has already been exceeded in one of our applications.
